October quest

Ok,

As we promised before, here are the rest of the October Rainbow Trip pictures. As it was expected, waters were lower than usual, making the fish quite easy to locate.

By far the most effective way to induce a take was the use of nymphs, the favorite ones? Caddis larva and pupa, drifted dead and right on the feeding line.

It’s important to mention that we found a few fish that were still spawning; anyway, we did not try to cast at those for respect to the resource. Even though the season has already begun it doesn’t mean that all fish are ready to be caught yet.

So we were dedicated to locate the mythical October rainbows, those pigs that have already spawned and are still swimming in these minor tributaries. Fish were everywhere; little rainbows that were circling around larger trout, eating pretty much anything that drifted close to them. Mid size fish was also abundant, probably they were what we caught the most, in fact, at a certain point we were avoiding the takes of smaller fish in order to reach the larger ones. These larger ones, the mythical, the pigs, were present but, as it was predictable, in reduced numbers and hard to fool. Ok, we did not catch a mythical one but, damn we were close; in any case, the abundance of the mid sized ones made of this trip a unique event that you should not miss out a next time. Enough words…
